Delivering Superior Services to the Petrochemical Industry

Lorneville is the name organizations such as Irving, Canaport LNG, and Imperial Oil trust to lead their petrochemical construction, turnaround, and maintenance projects. Our team brings the highest standards of quality, safety, and workmanship to each of our petrochemical projects—ensuring efficient and effective delivery of each element of our scoped work.

Our expertise includes installing and modifying petrochemical process equipment, piping, and maintaining and repairing process tanks. We are a unionized multi-trade contractor, and the majority of our petrochemical hours are associated with boilermaking, pipefitting, millwrighting, and ironworks. We can manage supply, field services, and civil and electrical engineering scopes.

LNG Loading Arms

Lorneville is committed to safety in all its petrochemical work. This commitment was displayed when we were awarded a Tank Life Extension (TLE) project and were informed by the client that eye injuries had previously been an issue. Lorneville reviewed these incidents and implemented a program requiring full-face respirators when conducting activities within confined spaces and for all hot work. Since this program was implemented, Lorneville has not had an eye injury. Furthermore, our client was so impressed that the program was expanded to cover all work on their site.

Lorneville’s head office is next to the Irving Oil refinery—the largest of its kind in Canada. This proximity has led to a wealth of opportunities to experience almost every scope of boilermaker work within a refinery. We have successfully leveraged this experience to serve petrochemical facilities across Canada.

One of Lorneville’s critical strategies for meeting the needs of its petrochemical clients is developing Project Core Teams. These teams are unique to each project and consist of a Senior Project Manager, senior trade supervisors, and project engineers. This core serves as the backbone for the entire team, and their capabilities are leveraged to build the best team possible around them. The Project Team Core works in collaboration with your personnel or can head up all planning, scheduling, and estimating activities, transitioning into the execution of your project. Every step of the way, the Project Core Team is on-site—offering you a consistent point of contact, building trust, and overseeing all work.

Tank Construction for Canada’s First Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal

In October of 2006, Lorneville was awarded a contract for the mechanical installation of three 160,000 cubic meter storage tanks in Canada's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal, located in Saint John, New Brunswick. These tanks are more complex than typical storage tanks—with the inner tank consisting of 9% nickel alloy steel—and the expertise required to construct them is significant.

At its peak, Lorneville employed more than 250 workers on this project, ensuring the LNG tank construction followed strict safety guidelines. Canada's first LNG receiving and regasification terminal now supplies up to 1.2 billion cubic feet of clean-burning natural gas per day to Northeastern markets via Emera's Brunswick Pipeline and its connection with the Maritimes & Northeast Pipeline.
